Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber said Iran has never been after building a nuclear weapon, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has not seen any sign of Iran's non-peaceful nuclear program in recent years.

Hawzah News Agency – Speaking in a meeting with visiting Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi, Mokhber referred to the Supreme Leader's fatwa stating that the production and use of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons, is prohibited.

Emphasizing an impartial approach adopted by the IAEA in the field of activities of countries regarding nuclear energy, including Iran’s nuclear program, he said: “The international community expects the IAEA to follow up the countries' nuclear programs with a specialized and expert view.”

He stressed developing cooperation between Iran and the IAEA for developing its peaceful nuclear program, saying: “The main basis of the establishment of the International Atomic Energy Agency is to help develop and promote peaceful nuclear knowledge around the world.”

Tehran welcomes expansion of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency for the peaceful use of nuclear knowledge, he stated.

Iran’s history shows that Iranians have been after promoting science and knowledge and help humanity, Mokhber said.

Accordingly, Iran is looking for peaceful nuclear technology for energy, industrial, health, medical and basic needs of its people, he said adding that we must be self-sufficient in this regard.

Meanwhile, Grossi expressed satisfaction with the his visit to Tehran and the finalization of the agreements and constructive negotiations between Iran and the IAEA.

We hope that in future visits to Tehran, the ideas of cooperation for developing peaceful nuclear program and promoting this knowledge in Iran will be implemented.

Emphasizing the fact that all countries in the world, including Iran, have the right to use nuclear science for health, industrial and energy purposes, he said: “Commitment and cooperation between Iran and the IAEA is in the interest of the people of Iran and the world.”

Iran’s scientific and religious background has shown that the Iranian people have always contributed to the development of peace and progress in the world, he stated.
